The first time you became light it was
colossal. As if the stars themselves fissured
and you took their place, nailed to the sky.
You were my own personal moonstone.
I cupped you in my palm, skin
turned siren red against your light.
Bursting & breaking, heat emitting
from the seams of you. There was something
roaring in your chests, full of voltage & turbulence.
I’m not going to sugar-coat anything.
You were mostly an uncomfortable feeling
I had to wait out, like pins and needles
or nausea. Sometimes you were not bliss.
Sometimes you tasted like smoke.
Even if I had you, I would
never truly have you, and I’m starting
